YooMee Africa launches TD-LTE network in Cote d’Ivoire

9 Apr 2014

Swiss-owned wireless broadband provider YooMee Africa has launched its Time-Division Long Term Evolution (TD-LTE) network in Cote d’Ivoire, referring to the deployment as ‘West Africa’s first TD-LTE network’. At launch, LTE coverage is limited to capital city Abidjan.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, YooMe commenced operation in Cameroon in May 2011 as a WiMAX operator but is in the process of overhauling its network with TD-LTE technology. Going forward, Rwanda and Angola are rumoured to be next in line for YooMee deployments. The Ivorian network was rolled out by French-US vendor Alcatel-Lucent.
