Waoo! to increase download speeds to 500Mbps from 1 May

9 Apr 2014

Danish broadband provider Waoo! will raise the maximum transmission speeds offered over its fibre-optic network to 500Mbps/250Mbps (down/uplink) from 1 May 2014. Managing director Jorgen Stensgaard said: ‘The product is obviously a luxury product for consumers who have a particular need for capacity, but we fully expect that broadband requirements in the coming years will increase significantly.’

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Waoo! was effectively formed through the merger of Smile Content, Profiber and Dansk Bredband in September 2010. The company was established in its current form later that year in order to manage the fibre access networks of 15 (two of which subsequently merged, creating 14) of Denmark’s largest energy companies under a single brand identity. Combined, the 14 networks pass more than 26% of Danish households, which equated to around 800,000 inhabitants by June 2013.
