Orbitcom partners SES to offer Astra Connect broadband service

9 Apr 2014

SES Broadband Services has announced the signing of an agreement with German internet service provider (ISP) Orbitcom to market its Astra Connect satellite service in underserved areas of the country where current broadband speeds are less than 2Mbps. A range of six Astra Connect service packages will be available to Orbitcom customers, with prices depending on data volume. All packages have download speeds of up to 20Mbps and upload speeds of up to 2Mbps. ‘The internet has become an indispensable part of our lives and yet high speed broadband internet access is still not the norm,’ said Orbitcom CEO Andreas Schmidt, adding: ‘With the Astra Connect tariffs we can provide both casual surfers and usage-heavy home office operators internet access that is directly tuned to their needs and usage patterns. For everyone, everywhere, this is crucial.’ Meanwhile, Patrick Biewer, managing director of SES Broadband Services, commented: ‘We are looking forward to working with Orbitcom in Germany, a very important market for us. With the launch of ASTRA 2E we have expanded capacity and coverage for this market, allowing for further growth and connectivity for everyone, regardless of their location.’
