Orange Horizons plans ISP launch

9 Apr 2014

Orange Horizons, the South African arm of French telecoms giant Orange Group, has outlined plans to become an internet service provider (ISP) in the country, local news agency BusinessTech reports. According to the article, CEO Sebastien Crozier said: ‘We plan to launch as an ISP, because it is one way of becoming an operator without being an MVNO … What we see in Europe is triple-play: you have TV, you have voice-over-internet protocol (VoIP), and you have internet access all on the same subscription. We think this is quite interesting.’ Orange Horizons has previously expressed its intention to launch as an MVNO in South Africa, although the company has clarified that a lack of legislation covering that section of the industry continues to hamper its plans. TeleGeography notes that Orange Horizons launched its operations in the country in January 2013 with an e-commerce website, which sells telecoms-related devices and accessories.
