Govt demands NOFBI showdown with Telkom

9 Apr 2014

The Kenyan government intends to take Telkom Kenya to task over its perceived mismanagement of the country’s National Optic Fibre Backbone Infrastructure (NOFBI) programme, which has seen uptake below 50% despite investment to the tune of KES5 billion (USD56.8 million). According to African tech website HumanIPO.com, the government has already expressed reservations over Telkom’s continued involvement with the scheme following widespread suggestions that Orange Group is considering exiting the country. The exclusive contract to manage the network had previously earned the stricken company KES250 million per year in fees.
