The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of Oman is planning to introduce a roaming cap of OMR100 (USD259) for post-paid mobile subscribers making calls and using data abroad. ‘The limit is being introduced after the TRA received a large number of complaints of ‘bill shock’ from people while using their phones outside the country,’ The Times of Oman quotes the TRA’s International Relations & Media Manager, Hilal O. Al Siyabi, as saying. ‘Earlier, there wasn’t any consumption limit. So, after talking with telecom operators, it was decided that there will be a roaming cap.’ No date for when the cap is due to come into force has yet been announced, although TRA officials say it will be later this year.
