27 Mar 2014

Dhivehi Raajjeyge Gulhun (Dhiraagu), the Maldives’ incumbent telecoms operator, has announced the soft-launch of ‘UltraFast Broadband’ packages for residential customers using VDSL technology. The service is initially available for customers within the capital Male in selected areas that have cable lengths less than one kilometre from the exchange equipment. Two packages are on offer: ‘Home UltraFast’ costs MVR1,990 (USD128) per month for a downstream connection speed of up to 25Mbps with a data allowance of 130GB, and ‘Home UltraFast Plus’ includes speeds of up to 36Mbps with 150GB of data for MVR2,500 per month. Outside of the VDSL coverage area customers can opt for the ‘Pro Unlimited 15M’ ADSL plan, which was launched earlier this month offering speeds up to 15Mbps for MVR1,690 per month.

‘These new packages will be ideal for high speed download, upload, gaming and streaming,’ commented Dhiraagu’s director of marketing, Ahmed Maumoon, adding: ‘With the introduction of UltraFast Broadband the choice of internet packages just got a lot better with a range of packages now included in our portfolio for different customer segments. We would like to assure our customers that based on popularity of the packages and customer feedback we plan to extend the coverage areas for more homes to enjoy these higher speeds.’
