Ukrtelecom opposes Russian plan to change Crimean phone numbers

Ukrainian incumbent fixed line telco Ukrtelecom has opposed a plan announced by Russia’s communications ministry to introduce Russian dialling codes for telephone subscribers in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, which signed a deal earlier this week to break away from Ukraine and join Russia, reports ProIT. The Russian ministry said it would submit a draft order for public discussion under which two dialling regions (Sevastopol city and the rest of the Crimea region) would be assigned Russian regional prefix codes – ‘869’ and ‘365’ respectively. Ukrtelecom said it had no plans to transfer its subscribers in the region to new numbers.
