Jio signs tower pact with Viom Networks

18 Mar 2014

Reliance Jio Infocomm, the telecoms arm of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), has inked a deal to lease mobile towers from infrastructure management firm Viom Networks, the Times of India writes. Newcomer Jio is the only provider to have secured pan-India 4G frequencies, and recently augmented its spectrum holdings with its purchase of 32 blocks of 1800MHz airwaves earlier this year. The cellco is in the process of rolling out its network, and has looked to hasten the process by leasing access to the tower and fibre assets of existing players and independent infrastructure providers, including Reliance Communications (RCOM) and Bharti Infratel. Jio’s managing director, Sanjay Mashruwala commented on the company’s deal with Viom: ‘This agreement is in line with our mission of a pan-India launch spanning next-generation voice and data services and leveraging existing telecom infrastructure. We look forward to partnering with Viom Networks for rolling out services across the country.’
