Ecuadorian state-owned full-service operator Corporacion Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (CNT) has launched commercial pre-paid 4G LTE mobile data-only packages alongside post-paid tariffs with a Mi-Fi personal LTE hotspot device (via which users can connect up to five other wireless devices including smartphones). As reported by TeleSemana, commercial services are initially available in the capital Quito and second-largest city Guayaquil, with over 100 live LTE base stations, and a total of 400 live cell sites planned in the near future, plus voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) services scheduled for launch by the end of April. On CNT’s website, it offers maximum LTE data speeds capped at 20Mbps downstream and 4Mbps upstream on both post- and pre-paid data plans. The post-paid LTE data plans require signing a 24-month contract, and include the LTE Mi-Fi E5776S device in all five package tiers, priced from USD29 (USD32.50 including taxes) for 2GB monthly data allowance, up to USD140 (USD156.80 including taxes) for a 15GB monthly volume. Pre-paid LTE data customers must pay USD399 (USD466.80 including taxes) for the Mi-Fi device with a 1GB per-month allowance for 18 months (i.e. 18GB in total) inclusive in the one-off price. In areas where there is no LTE coverage users are provided with HSPA+ data services.
