ETB to launch IPTV in late March

Colombian state-backed telco Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Bogota (ETB) has revealed plans to launch an IPTV service later this month, augmenting its existing direct-to-home (DTH) TV offerings, El Tiempo writes. The offering will be provided over the telco’s new fibre-optic (FTTx) network, which went live in December last year and now passes some 290,000 homes, including 1,000 via fibre-to-the-home (FTTH); ETB aims to pass 85% of premises in the capital by the end of 2015. The new service will feature more than 160 channels, including 40 in high definition (HD), and prices for triple-play packages bundling IPTV, broadband and telephony will vary from COP182,000 to COP197,000 (USD89.08 to USD96.42). ETB’s FTTx broadband provides speeds of up to 30Mbps/15Mbp downlink/uplink.
