Vodafone embarks on Hamburg network upgrade

7 Mar 2014

Vodafone Germany has begun the upgrade and expansion of its mobile network in the city of Hamburg, with work expected to be completed next month. The modernisation programme will improve the voice quality of Vodafone’s network in Germany’s second largest city, as well as double 3.5G data transfer rates up to 42.2Mbps through the rollout of dual carrier (DC)-HSPA+ technology. The UK-based company, which has around 23,000 base stations nationwide, is investing around EUR4 billion (USD5.5 billion) in the upgrade of its mobile network across the country over the next two years.
