freenet EBITDA exceeds FY guidance

3 Mar 2014

freenet has announced its preliminary results for the twelve months ended 31 December 2013, reporting consolidated group revenue of EUR3.193 billion (USD4.41 billion), an increase of 3.5% from EUR3.085 billion in the year-ago period, with the mobile communications division accounting for EUR3.160 billion of total sales. Group EBITDA was stable at EUR357.4 million, exceeding its forecast for the year of EUR355.0 million, while group net income rose by around 38% year-on-year to EUR238.9 million. At 31 December 2013 freenet’s mobile customer base totalled 13.29 million (down from 14.08 million twelve months earlier), of which 4.53 million were pre-paid customers, compared to 5.58 million at end-2012, mainly due to the ongoing deregistration of inactive SIM cards by network operators. Around 5.86 million were contract users (up by over 80,000) and the remaining 2.90 million were ‘no-frills’ customers (primarily comprised of mobile contracts completed online in the discount market), up by around 180,000 from twelve months earlier.

freenet said it is aiming for Group EBITDA of approximately EUR365 million for 2014 and around EUR370 million for 2015, while expecting a ‘modest’ increase in group revenue and post-paid/no-frills customers for both years.
