Vodafone Greece claims country’s first mobile phone contactless payment scheme

27 Feb 2014

Alpha Bank and Vodafone Greece, in partnership with Visa Europe and First Data, have launched the pilot programme of Tap ΄n Pay, the first mobile phone application for contactless payments in the Greek market. Tap ΄n Pay is a ‘mobile wallet’ application for secure payments using Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. Greek users currently require a special Vodafone mobile SIM card, which stores the Alpha Bank Enter Visa debit card on it. The Tap ’n Pay application enables contactless transactions in shops where contactless card acceptance terminals are in use by debiting the bank account that is linked to the debit card. Tap ΄n Pay is being introduced in Greece as a pilot for selected users with Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 and Samsung Galaxy S3 devices.
