Government approves April auction

Pakistan’s prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday approved a plan to auction 2100MHz and 1800MHz mobile licences for 3G and 4G services by mid-April this year. Finance Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar said in a press conference that investors from Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar were expected to take part in the auction, the Tribune newspaper reports, while confirming that the government has approved the draft information memorandum prepared by consultants, and that the licence term will be set at 15 years. The government also confirmed that base prices are set at USD295 million per 10MHz for 3G 2100MHz licences and USD210 million per 10MHz for 4G 1800MHz spectrum, while a total of 30MHz in the 2100MHz band and 20MHz in the 1800MHz range is on offer.
