Softbank reports record 94.4% increase in net sales

Japanese telecoms giant Softbank Corp has published its financial results for the nine months ended 31 December 2013, reporting a 94.4% year-on-year increase in net revenues to JPY4.562 trillion (USD44.52 billion), mainly attributed to sales of JPY1.684 trillion generated by its newly-acquired US unit Sprint. In the nine months of the fiscal year ending 31 March 2014 (9M FY2014), the company reported net profit of JPY526.122 billion, a 48.3% improvement y-o-y on the JPY354.806 billion reported in the corresponding period of FY2013. The group’s EBITDA also increased to JPY1.299 trillion in the period under review, a 48.6% improvement compared to the JPY874.083 billion reported at end-December 2012. The company projects that net sales will reach at least JPY6.0 trillion by end-March 2014, while forecasts expect EBITDA for the period to surpass JPY1.5 trillion.

In operational terms, Softbank reported a consolidated customer base of 34.760 million at end-December 2013, up by 10.97% from 31.322 million subscribers reported on 31 December 2012, corresponding to over 3.43 million net additions in the twelve month period.
