Zuku plots Mombasa expansion

7 Feb 2014

Kenyan broadband provider Zuku, which offers triple-play services in Nairobi, has revealed plans to extend its hybrid fibre-coaxial (HFC) network to Mombasa, Kenya’s second largest city. Richard Bell, vice chairman of Zuku parent, the Wananchi Group, has revealed that the firm has already started construction in Mombasa, and plans to connect around 100,000 homes in the city within the next twelve months. Bell commented: ‘Once we’ve built Nairobi and Mombasa we’ll start looking at other towns and we’re also hopeful that as the universal service fund (USF) comes on-stream we will be able to apply [it] to build residential fibre in some other parts of the country’.
