Trinidad and Tobago IXP launching in Q2

6 Feb 2014

The Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (TATT) is preparing to launch the country’s internet exchange point (IXP) in the second quarter of this year, according to the regulator’s executive officer of policy and planning, Kwesi Prescod, speaking at the Capacity Caribbean 2014 event in the Dominican Republic this week, Capacity Magazine reports. Prescod declared: ‘The IXP will have the effect of encouraging more data hosting within each of the Caribbean islands,’ explaining further that each Caribbean island has different demographics and market conditions, and that he hopes the IXP will encourage more data creation, as well as offshore data storage in the region. ‘North America may actually consider Caribbean-based infrastructure as a result,’ he added.
