State-backed broadband provider Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Bogota (ETB) is aiming to extend its new fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network to an additional 600,000 premises in the capital by the end of the year to bring the total to 800,000. The infrastructure is being supplied by Chinese vendor ZTE, and supports maximum download speeds of up to 100Mbps. ETB hopes to pass 85% of homes and businesses in the capital by late 2015, the company’s president Saul Kattan was quoted by local press reports as saying.
