Alternative Mexican fixed line operator Axtel has reportedly emerged as the winner in a broadband project tender issued by the Secretario de Comunicaciones y Transportes (SCT). According to Capacity Magazine, Axtel will deploy a broadband network in 40 metropolitan areas across the country, with a view to increasing the bandwidth available for commercial internet access. It is understood that the Niba network will enable internet access through three interconnection points in the cities of Monterrey, Guadalajara and Mexico City, and it is designed to create a high speed network via 40 links and connection points, enabling bandwidth speeds of between 1Gbps and 10Gbps. The project aims to address 60% of the population.
