Subscriber growth bolsters Idea’s turnover

Indian cellco Idea Cellular has registered a 17.8% year-on-year increase in revenues for its fiscal third quarter ended 31 December 2013, booking turnover of INR66.11 billion (USD1.05 billion). EBITDA for the period expanded to INR18.14 billion, with an EBITDA margin of 27.4%, compared to INR13.17 billion and 23.5% respectively a year earlier. Meanwhile, net earnings more than doubled y-o-y to INR3.98 billion, although this also represented a slight drop of 0.1% on a quarter-on-quarter basis. In terms of subscribers, Idea continues to see steady growth, with the cellco reporting 128.7 million wireless users at the end of December 2013, compared to 113.9 million a year earlier and 127.2 million in September 2013. Idea also added 2.5 million net new 3G subscribers in the three-month period, bringing its total 3G user base to 8.7 million.
