SLT (Mobitel) considers Hutch acquisition

Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), which includes mobile subsidiary Mobitel, has disclosed that it is in discussions with Hong Kong-based Hutchison Asia Telecom (HAT) on the possible acquisition of rival cellco Hutchison Telecommunications Lanka (Hutch Lanka). As reported by Sri Lanka’s Sunday Times, SLT gave a statement to the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) yesterday in which it said SLT/Mobitel is in ‘preliminary’ takeover negotiations with Hutch. ‘SLT assures its shareholders and the public that they will be kept duly informed of the transaction in the event [that] a definite decision is reached by the parties,’ the filing to the CSE added.
