US telecoms group Liberty Global plans to create a new Latin America unit incorporating its Chilean and Puerto Rican operations, Diario Financiero writes, citing the company’s chairman John Malone. Liberty will launch a bond issue for USD1.4 billion through its Chilean arm, VTR, to create a financial structure for the new division and to fund potential acquisitions in the region. Mike Fries, Liberty Global’s CEO, explained that the group’s Latin American operations are currently growing faster than its European UPC division and has a stronger profile for growth.
