State-run telcos Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) will be obliged to allocate at least 30% of their procurement orders to Indian Telephone Industries (ITI), another government-run business, the cabinet committee on economic affairs ruled yesterday. The Hindu Business Line writes that a further 20% of all network infrastructure must be sourced from the struggling vendor. The policy is set to remain in place for a year from 1 September 2013, and shall be reviewed at the end of this period.
