Reports from Nepal suggest that two local firms are on the verge of launching what would be the country’s first IP-based television (IPTV) services. NexTV Asia Pacific reports that Orient Digital Media and Subisu Cable Net are both looking to introduce IPTV over the next few months. Internet service provider (ISP) Subisu says it is hoping to receive a permit from the government which will allow it to launch IP video over its networks in March. Orient Digital, meanwhile, has already received its operating concession and is currently deploying infrastructure. A third firm, state-owned Nepal Telecom, is also licensed to provide IPTV although its plans for the technology are still in the development stage.
