La Poste Caraibes Mobile launches MVNO in French overseas territories

13 Jan 2014

La Poste Caraibes Mobile, a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) controlled by the French post office, has reportedly launched in Martinique, Guadeloupe and French Guiana. According to a number of local press reports, the reseller piggybacks on the network of Orange Caraibe, and pre-paid, non-binding subscriptions offer a flat rate for calls to customers in the three French Caribbean territories and the French mainland. Would-be customers can purchase MVNO packages at one of the 125 post office branches in the region, which are broken down as follows: Guadeloupe (55), Martinique (45) and French Guiana (25).

It is unclear if the MVNO is affiliated to its namesake in mainland France, La Poste Mobile; the reseller launched in May 2011 as a joint venture between Le Groupe La Poste (51%) and telco SFR. SFR lacks a presence in the French Caribbean, although it is active in the territories of Reunion and Mayotte, which are situated in the Indian Ocean.
