Uzbeketelecom bolsters international links

Uzbek fixed line incumbent Uzbektelecom claims to be capable of increasing the speed of international internet connections by more than four times, Uzdaily writes. The telco increased its international channels to more than 10Gbps in 2013, and claims to be able to increase that fourfold if there is demand from local internet service providers (ISPs). Uzbektelecom has looked in recent years to reduce the cost for international bandwidth for local ISPs by increasing its capacity, with the aim of boosting its international links to 100Gbps. As noted by TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, the telco was able to reduce the price per Mbps of international bandwidth to USD362.8 in mid-2013, from USD409.4 six months earlier and USD529.0 at the end of 2011. By end-2013, the rate had fallen to USD312.6 per Mbps.
