Viva launches commercial LTE, claims ‘widest coverage’

7 Jan 2014

Viva Bahrain yesterday became the third operator in the Kingdom to launch commercial 4G LTE mobile broadband services, promising data speeds of up to 100Mbps and claiming to have wider coverage across Bahrain at launch compared to the existing LTE networks of rivals Batelco and Zain. The Saudi-backed cellco is offering mobile and home/office wireless broadband LTE data plans, both activated via an add-on package, which is available at no extra cost for business and individual customers for a promotional period running to the end of February 2014. After that date the add-on will cost BHD5 (USD13.10). Viva Bahrain’s CEO Ulaiyan Al Wetaid said: ‘We have taken our time to launch 4G LTE to ensure that the quality of our network, the offer and above all, the customer experience, exceeds the exemplary performance already offered by our 3G+ network … We have made subscribing to our 4G LTE service as simple as dialing a short code with instant connectivity for customers to experience the exceptionally high speed technology … Our 4G LTE offering incorporates the fastest home broadband service with a comprehensive and holistic offering to cater to our customers evolving needs in both mobile and data services. This … fulfills our aim of becoming a total telecom provider offering both mobile and fixed line services.’
