Telkomsel, Indonesia’s largest mobile operator by subscribers, has upgraded its GSM and 3.5G HSPA+ infrastructure across the country using Nokia Solutions & Networks’ (NSN’s) radio and core network, as well as comprehensive services such as network planning and optimisation, network implementation and system integration. The Finnish vendor has announced in a press release that Telkomsel customers can now enjoy higher quality voice and data services with improved network capacity, speed and coverage. In addition, NSN provided its refarming services for the 1800MHz GSM band, helping the operator to provide 4G LTE services for the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) CEO Summit in Bali in October, which supplied high speed mobile broadband services for around 5,000 delegates and participants attending the event. Under the GSM and 3.5G network upgrade contract, NSN supplied its Single RAN platform, and implemented its NetAct network management system that enables consolidated monitoring, management and operation of Telkomsel’s networks.

Commenting on the contract, Telkomsel’s CEO Alex J. Sinaga said: ‘The 4G LTE services that we offered during an international event such as APEC Summit demonstrates our readiness to expand the broadband network in Indonesia. It is also a statement to the world that Indonesia is ready to implement the technology, and by implementing the technology in the country, we are going to support the economic development in Indonesia. Our longstanding technology partner, NSN, helped us upgrade our existing GSM and 3G network across the country as well as deploy a reliable LTE network smoothly in Bali.’
