TIM Brasil adds small business fibre service to broadband portfolio

3 Jan 2014

Brazilian telecoms carrier TIM Participacoes (TIM Brasil) has launched a new version of its fibre-optic broadband service, specifically targeting the micro and small enterprise segment in the country, the company has said in a statement. Offered under the banner ‘Live TIM Empresas’, the new product has been in the pipeline for some seven months, and from yesterday became available commercially in all areas where TIM’s residential fibre-optic service is already live, namely the cities of Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Duque de Caxias. The telco is initially offering a service plan priced at BRL199.9 (USD86) per month, including 50MB of downloading, it said.

TIM Brasil’s move to offer a more targeted service for small enterprise users comes in the wake of the July 2013 launch of a business user version of its residential fibre-optic broadband service TIM Fiber. At the time of that announcement, TIM’s new business service offered dedicated IP links to business/corporate customers and tiered Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to enable faster and more constant data transmission speeds, and targeted Brazil’s SME business user segment, leaving sister firm Intelig free to continue its focus on major enterprise customers. According to TIM, that initial service will now serve medium-sized firms only and has been rebranded as ‘Live TIM Dedicado’, in order to better differentiate it from the newly launched version. Further, because Live TIM Dedicado is provided through exclusive dedicated IP links, as well as fully segregated traffic and differentiated SLAs, the carrier hopes to ensure that customers receive faster and more constant data transmission.

TIM Brasil, a unit of Telecom Italia, said it ended 2013 with 60,000 fibre broadband customers and claims to have a 52.8% share of the ultra-high speed broadband market (i.e. up to 34Mbps according to Anatel’s definition) in Sao Paulo, and a 41.7% share in Rio de Janeiro and Duque de Caxias.
