Investigation continues into Vietnam 3G price fixing allegations

24 Dec 2013

Competition authorities in Vietnam have revealed that an investigation into an increase in 3G tariffs by the three largest local cellular operators will not be completed until next month, the Saigon Times reports. In October this year VinaPhone, MobiFone and Viettel aroused suspicions of collusion when all three simultaneously announced a rise in their 3G pricing. The country’s Ministry of Industry and Trade then launched its investigation and said that any company found to be violating competition laws would be fined 10% of their total revenues from the previous fiscal year. Between them, the three firms account for more than 93% of the total cellular market in Vietnam, TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database reports.
