SFR and RATP launch 4G on Line A of the RER

20 Dec 2013

SFR, France’s second largest cellco in terms of subscribers, and the Regie Autonome des Transports Parisiens (RATP) have deployed 3G/4G networks in the RER, an underground rail system which serves Paris and its suburbs. According to a joint press release, subscribers to SFR services can now access the internet over the operator’s HSPA+ and Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks in the main stations, platforms and tunnels on the RER Line A, which runs between La Defense and Gare de Lyon stations. SFR was the first French mobile operator to sign an agreement with the RATP in July 2012; the pilot HSPA+ network was trialled at Chatelet-Les-Halles and Gare de Lyon RER stations.
