Filipino giant PLDT claims 70% share of domestic broadband segment

20 Dec 2013

Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) claims to have taken a 70% share of the country’s residential broadband market, following double-digit growth in its subscriber base. PLDT head of home business Ariel Fermin says that the company’s myDSL and myBro (wireless) broadband solutions have taken ‘the top two spots’ in terms of broadband service options in the local market. ‘We expect to sustain this robust double-digit performance as we aggressively expand our customer base,’ the official said, adding that PLDT is also offering its ‘Fibr’-branded fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) service which is capable of delivering speeds of up to 100Mbps in over 800 administrative sub-divisions nationwide. ‘We have also added more content into our Fibr service. We have partnered with clickplay.ph to deliver Hollywood blockbusters movies on demand of our subscribers. We are also making available the highly-popular EA Games and Smart Music to our subscribers,’ Fermin noted.
