Spanish telecoms giant Telefonica has said that its Mexican subsidiary aims to ink deals with between five and ten mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) by the end of 2014, according to Reuters. Juan Abellan, Telefonica’s CEO in Mexico, was cited as saying that, on the back of virtual operator deals signed earlier in 2013 with Virgin Mobile and supermarket retailer Coppel, the former is expected to launch commercially in the second quarter of 2014. On plans to bolster the number of its partnerships, Mr Abellan said: ‘We want to end the coming year working with between five and ten virtual operators on the street … It’s going to be something very different to what has been telecoms up until now in Mexico.’
