Kwajalein Atoll residents to get broadband access

19 Dec 2013

Residents on Kwajalein Atoll, part of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, will be able to access broadband internet services for the first time following an agreement between the Marshall Islands National Telecommunications Authority (NTA) and a US Army contractor. Radio New Zealand cites the NTA’s general manager Tommy Kijiner Junior as saying that the authority will provide additional bandwidth from Guam and the US to extend broadband access to households on Kwajalein Atoll, while a contractor working at the base will be responsible for installing the hardware in each home. At present, the roughly 2,000 residents living at the US Army’s Reagan Test Site in the Marshall Islands have to rely on dial-up internet connections.
