DoT to deny spectrum sharing on 3G

19 Dec 2013

Under new proposals the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will block operators from sharing 3G spectrum, the Economic Times writes. The DoT has begun drafting rules for spectrum sharing to address the scarcity of suitable frequencies for high quality mobile services. Under the plans, telcos will be permitted to share spectrum resources within a service area, with the caveat that the total amount of shared spectrum should not exceed the maximum allowed to a single provider. This practice will not be extended to 3G spectrum however.
