ArmenTel commences fixed network upgrade in Aragatsot, Lori regions

Arka News Agency reports that the Armenian incumbent PTO ArmenTel (Beeline) has announced that work has begun to extend fixed telephony to the rural community of Tsakhkahovit in Aragatsotn region and to digitise the telephone network in Akhtala, a small town in northern region of Lori. The telco intends to build new trunk lines, including fibre-optic cabling, as well as remodelling the existing communication nodes and switch subscriber lines in Akhtala to a new digital set-up. ArmenTel aims to complete the upgrade works before the end of December 2013, and at the same time, it says it will install ADSL2 + equipment in the villages of Voskepar and Achajur, in Tavush region, to allow local residents there to connect to high speed broadband internet services. The carrier’s CEO Andrey Pyatakhin says that the ongoing modernisation of its fixed infrastructure is part of its strategy to make new fixed telephony standards, including ADSL2+, available to the company’s customers all over the country.
