18 Dec 2013

Just a day after it was revealed that Chunghwa Telecom had contracted Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) as one of the suppliers for its LTE network, Swedish vendor Ericsson has announced that it has been named as the main supplier for the Taiwanese operator’s country-wide LTE deployment, including the Radio Access Network (RAN) and roll-out services. Further, Ericsson has also revealed that it won the tender to act as sole supplier for the Evolved Packet Core, which includes Mobility Management Entity and Evolved Packet Gateway on SSR 8020, as well as IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem). As part of the deployment scope, Ericsson has confirmed it will provide LTE RAN for the most populated areas of Taiwan, including Taipei city.

Commenting on the development, Lin, Kuo-Feng, president of Chunghwa Telecom’s Mobile Business Group, noted: ‘Chunghwa Telecom has a long and rewarding relationship with Ericsson. Ericsson is awarded our LTE tender as main LTE supplier in recognition of this, and the fact that Ericsson is the clear leader for LTE around the world.’
