Sprint raises LTE footprint to 300 markets with 70 new locations in US, USVI

17 Dec 2013

Sprint Corp has extended its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network to 70 new markets across the United States and to its unincorporated territory the US Virgin Islands (USVI), taking its total number of areas covered to 300. Among the US locations added are St Louis (Missouri), San Diego (California), Green Bay (Wisconsin), Louisville (Kentucky) and Orlando (Florida).

Meanwhile, Sprint’s USVI subsidiary has belatedly switched on its 4G network on the islands of St Thomas and St Croix. Previously, the carrier revealed tentative plans to deploy LTE in the islands before the end of 2012, although this schedule subsequently fell by the wayside, and saw Sprint being leapfrogged by AT&T Mobility, which inaugurated its own 4G network on St Thomas and St Croix in July this year.
