SCPT relaunches fixed service in Kisangani

National fixed line provider Societe Congolaise des Postes et Telecommunications (SCPT) has officially relaunched its fixed line activities in the city of Kisangani, in Orientale Province, after 23 years of inactivity. According to RadioOkapi.net the PTO officially resumed commercial operations in the city on 9 December. Formerly known as Stanleyville, Kisangani is the provincial capital of Orientale, and the third largest urbanised city in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). In the 1990s, the area witnessed a series of major battles known as the ‘Fight of Kisangani’ during the First Congo War, and the fixed telecoms infrastructure destroyed during the conflict was never replaced.
