Unicom still set on FDD-LTE

16 Dec 2013

Lu Yimin, the CEO of China Unicom, has confirmed that, whilst the cellco has recently been issued a licence for China’s home grown Time Division Long Term Evolution (TD-LTE), the operator remains focused on Frequency Division Duplex (FDD)-LTE, as the ecosystem for the latter technology is more mature, Marbridge Daily writes. China’s second largest cellco by subscribers, Unicom will build TD-LTE networks in the busiest and most data-intensive areas, and will expand its 4G footprint with FDD-LTE networks when licences are issued for the platform. Yimin also revealed that whilst Unicom will not be offering unlimited data packages, data prices would be lower than current 3G costs.
