TeliaSonera restructuring operational reporting divisions in April

16 Dec 2013

Swedish telecoms group TeliaSonera will adjust its operating structure on 1 April 2014, grouping its operations in three geographic areas: Europe, Eurasia and Sweden, plus TeliaSonera International Carrier (TIC), compared to its current reporting divisions of Mobility, Broadband and Eurasia (plus TIC). In a press release, TeliaSonera said the new operating model will improve local operations’ accountability, and will strengthen the group’s ability ‘to enforce and follow up our sustainability, compliance and governance agendas, and support local management and staff in this regard.’ Between now and April TeliaSonera will appoint heads of the new key functions, and will report according to the new structure in Q2 2014. Erik Hallberg, the current head of TIC, has been picked to replace Veysel Aral as president of the Eurasia division, which provides mobile-only services in Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Nepal. A recent independent review into the Eurasia business concluded that certain deals had been conducted improperly, while a separate investigation into TeliaSonera’s business conduct in Uzbekistan continues.
