Regional telecoms operator NetCologne has announced plans to roll out a high speed fibre-optic network across Elsdorf, a town in the Rhein-Erft-Kreis area of North Rhine-Westphalia, in cooperation with utility firm RWE Deutschland. The Cologne-based company claims that around 90% of households in the town and approximately 300 businesses will be able to access the new network, which will provide maximum download speeds of up to 50Mbps. The first customer connections are expected to be activated in spring 2015, with the rollout scheduled for completion by the summer.
