A 60/40 joint venture between UK-based integrated support services company Carillion and technology services provider telent JV has been appointed as a preferred supplier by British fixed line incumbent BT to support the delivery of its Broadband Delivery UK (BD UK) programme to 33 Local Authority regions. In a press release Carillion confirmed that it will work as part of the JV with BT for the next three and half a years, with the appointment said to be worth up to GBP500 million (USD806 million) to the Carillion/telent partnership over that term, subject to performance. Under the terms of the deal the JV will deliver civil engineering, cabling, poling and other infrastructure services as part of the contract.

Commenting on the development, Carillion chief executive Richard Howson was cited as saying: ‘We are delighted to have extended our relationship with BT with this contract for BDUK … We look forward to working with BT to deliver BDUK, which will make a vitally important contribution to improving the UK’s broadband network and creating real benefits for the UK economy.’
