Iran launches IPTV in six provinces

11 Dec 2013

Iran’s Ministry of Information & Communication Technology (MICT), in cooperation with national broadcasting and telecoms companies, has reportedly launched the first phase of an internet protocol television (IPTV) project. WiMAX News reports that the first stage of the deployment encompasses 140,000 households in six provinces, namely Tehran, Isfahan, Khorasan Razavi, East Azarbaijan, Yazd and Qazvin. According to the Fars News Agency, back in October 2011 MICT said it was determined to start a television broadcast based on IPTV technology within the next four years. MICT expects that the service will attract some seven million domestic subscribers.
