Telkom Indonesia to construct new satellite in early-2014

9 Dec 2013

According to the online portal of Bisnis Indonesia, the country’s dominant telecoms provider PT Telkom Indonesia plans to construct and launch a new satellite in early 2014 – its fourth communications orbiter – and to that end, will soon issue a request for proposal (RFP) to manufacturers. The group’s director of network and solutions, Rizkan Chandra, says that the satellite will be a replacement for Telkom-3 which failed to reach its orbit position in August this year. Costing USD185 million, Telkom-3 was launched in Kazakhstan to replace Telkom-2, whose own orbit has expired. Telkom-2 had been in service since November 2005.
