Kolbi takes over Cable Vision

9 Dec 2013

State-backed utilities firm Grupo Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (Grupo ICE), which offers telecoms services under the ‘Kolbi’ moniker has announced its acquisition of a 100% stake in cable TV and broadband provider Cable Vision, Telesemana reports. ‘The [acquisition] reflects ICE’s aim to actively participate in the cable TV market as a provider, increasing our offerings to customers,’ the company said in a statement. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, sector regulator Superintendencia de Telecomunicaciones (Sutel) indicated in late 2012 that its approval of the takeover would carry a number of conditions, including Kolbi relinquishing some 350MHz of spectrum. Sutel later reversed its decision, however, on the basis that the planned purchase of Cable Vision would not have been the cause of the concentration of frequencies.
