Japanese telecoms giant NTT DOCOMO has extended its existing business collaboration with China Mobile and South Korea’s KT Corp until January 2017. According to a press release, the tie-up, which was originally signed by the three companies in January 2011, paves the way for the accelerated deployment of international Long Term Evolution (LTE) roaming services in China, Japan and South Korea. The first stage of the extended cooperation was launched at the end of November 2013, with the deployment of KT Corp’s data roaming service.
As previously reported by CommsUpdate, KT Corp and NTT DOCOMO launched a Wi-Fi Roaming Exchange solution in cooperation with global multi-service internetwork packet exchange (IPX) solution provider Aicent. The two companies’ subscribers can seamlessly and securely roam between the two operators’ network hotspots, allowing them to automatically connect through Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP), which utilises credentials contained in the SIM card to automatically access a Wi-Fi network without the need of a pre-established password.
