Rapid TV News reports that German cableco Kabel Deutschland (KDG) has begun offering 200Mbps broadband connections to customers in Mainz, double the speed of its fastest service. The Vodafone subsidiary says that DOCSIS 3.0-based connections are available to 90% of the households on its network, and that speeds of up to 400Mbps would be possible under the same standard. Future upgrades to DOCSIS 3.1 would enable even higher downlink speeds. The 200Mbps tariff is priced at EUR39.90 (USD54) per month for the first year and EUR59.90 thereafter, with a minimum contract period of 24 months.
