Telecom Italia inks Sicilian broadband agreement

4 Dec 2013

Telecom Italia (TI) and network vendor ItalTel have teamed up with Invitalia (the National Agency for Inward Investment and Enterprise Development) to sign a development agreement worth more than EUR61.0 million (USD82.7 million) to extend and improve broadband services in Sicily. TI will invest EUR41 million to replace its copper networks with fibre-optic technology, while ItalTel will contribute EUR20 million to build a software-led platform for the supply of video, voice and internet services over next generation networks.

For its part, Invitalia is now expected to contribute around EUR18 million of the total, courtesy of the Ministry of Economic Development, but a breakdown of the new investment structure has not yet been made available.
